Catchwise has grown rapidly in the Norwegian fishing industry, with 30% of Norwegian skippers moving to the platform. In some segments, including larger vessels, longliners, trawlers and pot vessels, the share is significantly higher.
Catchwise is aware that this has not happened by accident. Growth has come from staying close to skippers, listening to what creates problems at sea, and building the product around those needs.
The company also knows that happy customers spread the word, and a 14-day free trial has made it easy for sceptical skippers to see the value for themselves before committing.
The technology is now used in 7 countries and brings together premium satellite AIS, fishing activity, weather forecasts, ocean data and historical catch data in one platform. The purpose is to give skippers a better basis for making decisions by helping them see what is happening now, what has worked before, and where similar conditions may be developing.
Most new users replace their existing AIS solution with Catchwise within 2–3 weeks, once AIS parity is confirmed.
The company is launching new functionality continuously and adjusting it based on feedback from actual use at sea. That loop between development and the people using the product has kept Catchwise relevant and practical in a market that does not reward tools that look good on paper but fail on the water.
“We have gone all in on building a product skippers genuinely want to use. That means listening carefully, launching fast, and improving continuously based on feedback from the wheelhouse, says Ludvig Løddesøl, Founder and CFO at Catchwise”.
Recent product development has focused in particular on helping skippers get more value from their own catch history. By linking historical hauls to factors such as currents, temperature and weather, skippers can learn from their own experience and apply the learning in practice.
This helps the skipper get access to relevant information faster, and that way they can make decisions about where to go next with more confidence.
