Winning an award at IceFish is a special moment at any time, but for the Momoi Fishing Net company – awarded the Innovation in Fishing Award at last night's ceremony – there was an extra bonus.
After accepting the elegant glass award the three Momoi representatives who had travelled from Kobe, Japan, to IceFish, were delighted to be congratulated by their country's ambassador in Iceland, Keizo Takewaka, who attended the event.
And it was a pleasure which was repeated this morning when Ambassador Takewaka toured the 2026 IceFish Exhibition, and of course visited the Momoi stand.
"We came to Iceland to learn more about the country and its market as it is a very important place for us, and IceFish has been a good experience for us in every sense," said Momoi sales representative Kanako Hayase, "and of course winning the award was very special as well."
The Innovation in Fishing Award recognises a product, service or technology that has delivered significant improvements in fishing operations through greater efficiency, sustainability, safety or performance.
Last night it was awarded to Momoi Fishing by H.E. Thordur Oskarsson, a former Icelandic ambassador to Japan, as the audience were told the judges were particularly impressed by Momoi’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
In particular its Ecoloop Project, in which used fishing nets are chemically recycled into new, high-quality fishing gear, demonstrated how environmental responsibility and commercial performance can go hand in hand.
