GreenFish, the winner of the 2026 IceFish Award for Best New Start-Up, has recently announced another moment of celebration just weeks after the end of the biennial exhibition and conferences.
Reykjavik-based GreenFish has agreed a collaboration agreement with the Malaysian company Supratechnic, which will become the exclusive distributor of their AI-powered fishing app Afli for fishermen across Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
Combining AI, satellite observations and oceanographic data, and built on GreenFish’s core technology, Afli highlights areas where fish are more likely to be found, helping fishermen find their catch faster and make the most of every trip out to sea.
As part of the agreement Afli will be part of a free pilot for 50 fishermen running through the monsoon, and will include trip-safety features such as an overdue alert to a shore contact and an emergency (SOS) function.
“Every fisherman who goes out to sea should be able to come home safely, with a fair day’s catch. Afli puts AI-powered predictions on the phone they already carry, alongside the knowledge they have built up over generations,”said Melvin Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Supratechnic.
Meanwhile, the collaboration hints at the possibility of further developments, said Baldur S. Blöndal, GreenFish’s Chief Operations Officer. “Afli is already attracting attention in China and back home in Iceland. It is encouraging to see something we have been developing together for fishermen in Southeast Asia generate interest so far beyond the region. Hopefully that is a good sign of things to come!”
