Iceland
The National Association of Small Boat Owners (NASBO) was founded on 5 December 1985. NASBO is an umbrella organisation of 16 regional associations across the country. We represent 700 boats, which in most cases are operated by their owners alone or with one to three crew members.
Our mandate to safeguard the shared interests of small-scale fishermen across Iceland, act as their public spokesperson, and promote progress in fisheries, product quality, safety and insurance matters, and other issues that concern them.
Our members use the most environmentally friendly fishing methods in terms of carbon footprint, disturbance to marine ecosystems, plastic pollution and bycatch. As a result, they catch the freshest and most commercially valuable fish in Iceland, and create more jobs in our traditional fishing villages than any other sector in the fishing industry.
